King and Queen's visit closes roads in village

People living and visiting a picturesque village are being warned of road closures and parking restrictions ahead of a visit from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

They are due to visit Dedham in Essex later this morning – a village on the River Stour and part of “Constable Country”, named after the famous British landscape artist.

Local heroes, domestic abuse charities and an art group are all due to meet the royal couple who will visit The Sun gastro-pub and then walk down the High Street to the Essex Rose tearooms.

Colchester City Council has outlined various parking restrictions, including at Mill Pond and Mill Lane car parks which were being closed at 14:00 GMT on Wednesday.

The River Stour forms the border between Essex and Suffolk, and is a popular spot with visitors to Dedham and Stratford St Mary [Darius Laws]

Vehicles already parked before that time were able to leave throughout Wednesday afternoon, the council said.

The car parks would remain closed, and some roads in the centre of Dedham will be closed, between 08:00 and 15:00, as follows:

High Street, Royal Square and Brook Street, Dedham (from Stratford Road through to Manningtree Road and Crown Street)

Mill Lane, from the High Street to Mill Lane Car Park

The royal couple will be meeting schoolchildren and the general public during their walk along the High Street.
