STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An 87-year-old woman was robbed of 14 valuable coins at her home in Grasmere on Thursday afternoon, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.
The thieves fled with 12 silver coins and two gold coins that had a total value of at least $2,550, according to the source.
A “level-one” mobilization was called to search for the suspects in the robbery that occurred at about 4:27 p.m. in the vicinity of Fayette and Parkinson avenues, according to a spokesman for the NYPD’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.
The woman did not report any injuries to police.
Police described the suspects as two unknown males with light complexions who were wearing black surgical masks.
No arrests have been made and the investigation continues. Additional details about the robbery are not available at this time, the police spokesman said.
