The male figure skaters took to the ice on Saturday, prompting many to wonder where is Olympic gold medalist Nathan Chen.
The decorated skater was last seen on the Olympic stage in Beijing, where the Olympian won two gold medals. He brought home gold in the men’s singles figure skating event and in the team competition.
While Chen has not officially retired from skating, he said he would not be competing in the 2026 Olympic Winter Games as he attends medical school.
“I just want to open doors to kind of see what’s the best sort of approach for me,” Chen told The Los Angeles Times back in August. “And frankly, at this point in time in my life, I’ve already accomplished enough in skating that I’m quite satisfied with my career.”
While fans will certainly miss seeing Chen competing, Team USA is in good hands.
The U.S. has a new gold medal favorite in the “Quad God,” Ilia Malinin. The 20-year-old, known for landing the quadruple axel, enters these Olympic Games with high expectations.
