The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services has released its February application schedule for civil service exams.
Open, competitive, computer-based tests are administered throughout each month for various positions. If you meet the basic requirements of the job, you can apply for your exam online at Online Application System or at one of the Computer-Based Testing and Application Centers.
This month’s application period opened Feb. 4 for the following positions: chemical engineering intern; chief marine engineer; child and family specialist; civil engineering intern; electrical engineering intern; environmental engineering intern; mechanical engineering intern; occupational therapist; physical therapist; police communications technician; special officer; and special officer (H+H).
The starting salary for each career varies, according to the city.
Most of these exams have a deadline of Feb. 24.
The exam deadline for police communications technician is March 17.
The following exams have a deadline of April 21: chemical engineering intern; civil engineering intern; electrical engineering intern; environmental engineering intern; and mechanical engineering intern.
Additionally, the exam for police officer is open until Feb. 17, the exam for correction officer is open until March 4, and the exam for school safety agent is open until Feb. 17.
New York City employs hundreds of thousands of people in its 80 agencies. Taking a test is the way to get started in the hiring process for most of these positions. Application fees range from $40 to $101.
