STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The FDNY fought fire amidst dangerously cold temperatures Sunday, with one firefighter injured at a Graniteville apartment building blaze.
A call about a fire on the first floor of a two-story apartment building at 1300 Richmond Ave. came in around 6:40 a.m., according to a spokesperson from the FDNY.
At the time, wind chills had sent real-feel temperatures below zero.

About 80 fire and EMS personnel responded, bringing the blaze under control by 7:15 a.m., around half an hour after the call, according to the FDNY spokesperson.
Four people were evaluated by EMS on the scene but refused transportation to a hospital.
One firefighter was taken to Richmond University Medical Center in West Brighton with minor injuries, according to the FDNY.

Fire marshals were notified and the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, the spokesperson said.

Windows were broken and there was extensive damage from fire and smoke inside the apartment.
A neighbor expressed concern for the apartment’s resident. Words could be seen scrawled inside the apartment, on the bedroom wall and a mirror. At least part of the writing said “Hillary Clinton” on one wall and “CDC” in another section.
