Two newsstands in Midtown were targeted in knifepoint robberies just minutes apart Thursday night, adding to a string of unsettling incidents in the neighborhood this week — including a gunpoint robbery on W47th Street the night before that has now led to multiple arrests.

In the hour that followed, the sound of an NYPD helicopter circling overhead became a familiar backdrop for residents, as officers continued searching the area for suspects.
