An Upstate New York man has been arrested after allegedly holding a woman against her will in a hotel room.
WROC reports Brandon Giovannini, 41, of Farmington, N.Y., is accused of assaulting a woman and preventing her from leaving at the Finger Lakes Hotel on Jan. 6. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office said he threatened to kill her if she attempted to leave.
Deputies said Giovannini also allegedly tried to enter the woman’s room multiple times by force at the same hotel on Feb. 9, threatening to kill her. He was taken into custody following that incident, the sheriff’s office said.
Giovannini was charged with two counts of of aggravated family offense, as well as unlawful imprisonment in the first degree.
The Finger Lakes Daily Times reports the charges were elevated due to a prior conviction of first-degree criminal contempt.
Giovannini was transported to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment. He is scheduled to appear in Ontario County Court at a later date.
The victim’s name and other details were not disclosed.
Farmington is located in Ontario County, about 65 miles west of Syracuse and 20 miles southeast of Rochester.
