Liberty, NY (WRGB) — The New York State Police have announced the arrest of 31-year-old Matthew Jones of Liberty, NY, on charges related to child sexual exploitation. Jones was arrested on Feb. 6, 2026, and is charged with possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16 years of age, a Class E felony.
The arrest follows a proactive investigation that began in November 2025. Authorities revealed that Jones was in possession of images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children. A search warrant was executed at Jones’ residence in Liberty in February 2026.
The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, in coordination with the Troop F Child Abuse Unit, State Police Liberty Barracks, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Liberty, and the FBI.
Jones has been issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Liberty Court on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, at 2 p.m. The State Police are urging anyone with information to contact them at Middletown (845) 344-5300.
