Senator Addabbo presented the flag to Patrick Rudden, manager at Jamaica Hospital; Melissa Mejias, supervisor; and Darlene Habe, practice coordinator.
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. was pleased to once again donate an American flag to the Jamaica Hospital/Medisys Clocktower building in Ozone Park on February 6, 2026, to honor community veterans and commemorate the 85th Anniversary of the USO (United Service Organizations).
Established in 1941 at the direction of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the USO has provided a “home away from home,” with entertainment, comfort, connection, and support for service members and their families. Numerous celebrity superstars have performed for our veterans through the USO, most notably Bob Hope who carried on the tradition for 50 years. Other famous performers included Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Ann-Margret, and Robin Williams.
Senator Addabbo is a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs, and has consistently strived to help veterans through legislation and districtwide events. “I believe that veterans deserve the utmost care and respect as they have made great sacrifices to protect our country,” Addabbo said. “There is no greater symbol of that freedom than the American Flag, which should always be revered and treated with dignity. I am proud to provide a new flag to be flown atop the clocktower, reminding everyone of the history of our great nation, and to acknowledge the great work of the USO on its 80th Anniversary.”
Senator Addabbo previously donated a flag for the clocktower in August of last year, but harsh weather conditions, which have damaged the stars and stripes, have necessitated replacement.
