QUEENS, NY — The death toll from a four-alarm fire in Queens has risen to two victims.
The second victim is a newborn baby, fire officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The baby was found dead along with a 34-year-old woman inside 83-32 Dongan Avenue in Elmhurst. The woman has been identified as 34-year-old Miguelina Alcantara. The woman is the infant’s mother, according to CBS News.
The four-alarm fire broke out on Monday. In total, nine people were injured due to the blaze, including two firefighters.
More than 200 fire and medical personnel responding to the blaze.
Four people jumped out of windows to escape the fire, the FDNY said. Firefighters rescued two people from the second floor.
One victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
Fire marshals will determine the cause of the blaze.
