Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon is asking kids in the area for help with naming the Syracuse aquarium currently under construction.

The winner will be selected by a board and invited to attend the facility’s opening day free of charge.

McMahon said that he wants the space to be an educational experience for the children of Central New York.

“The reality is, I can almost promise you, I would say 80 to 90% of the kids in schools across this community would never see an aquarium as a kid. Now, they will,” he said.

The county executive said that they’re still planning on selling the naming rights to companies looking to invest in the facility’s growth and opening day could be as soon as this August.
