The New York State Police announced the arrest of Matthew Jones, age 31, of Liberty, New York, on February 6, 2026, on charges related to child sexual exploitation.
Jones is charged with the following offense:
• Possessing an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 16 Years of Age, Possess or Access, Class E Felony
The arrest is the result of a proactive investigation that began in November 2025. The investigation revealed that Jones was in possession of images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children. As a result, a search warrant was executed at Jones’ residence in Liberty in February 2026.
The investigation was conducted by the New York State Police Troop F Computer Crimes Unit, in coordination with the Troop F Child Abuse Unit, State Police Liberty Barracks, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Liberty, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Jones was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Liberty Court on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
