Police arrested two men and charged them with murder Wednesday in connection with two separate killings in a Bronx precinct where violent crime has spiked this year despite a citywide drop, according to the NYPD.
Officers from the 47th Precinct in the northern Bronx took 67-year-old Enoch Rosado and 24-year-old Devonte Moore into custody following unrelated homicides this month. Police said killings have more than doubled in the precinct so far this year compared to this time last year, with nearly a dozen reported through Oct. 19.
Rosado was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal weapons possession for allegedly stabbing his roommate to death early Wednesday after an argument at their home in NYCHA’s Edenwald Houses, officials said.
Police arrived at the building on East 229th Street and Laconia Avenue around 4 a.m. and found 35-year-old Miguel Batiz with multiple stab wounds, according to the NYPD. He was pronounced dead at the scene and Rosado was arrested Wednesday night. Information for his lawyer was not available as he awaited arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.
Moore also faces murder, manslaughter and weapons possession charges. Officials accused him in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Fareed Adeyi in a laundromat parking lot on White Plains Road and Rosewood Street on Oct. 7.
Police previously arrested Moore’s 64-year-old father in connection with Adeyi’s killing. Officials said the motive appeared to be retaliation, but did not provide further details. Information for Moore’s attorney was not immediately available.
The 47th Precinct, which includes Woodlawn, Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Baychester, Edenwald and Olinville, has recorded a 120% jump in homicides this year, with 11 through Oct. 19, according to NYPD data. Violent assaults and shootings in the precinct have increased 28% and 50%, respectively.
Citywide, all three of those crime categories have decreased compared to this point in 2024, making the 47th Precinct an exception to the overall trend.
This is a developing story based on preliminary information from police and may be updated.
