UPDATE:
As a result of information provided by an individual within the established perimeter, responding law enforcement units successfully located the suspect.
Geoffrey M. Ingersoll, age 40, of La Fargeville, NY, was arrested without incident after being found attempting to hide on a property on County Route 13 in the town of Orleans. A handgun was also recovered as part of the investigation.
Ingersoll was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C Felony). He was arraigned in Jefferson County CAP Court and remanded to the custody of the Jefferson County Jail without bail.
Assisting agencies included the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Watertown Police Department, Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force, Jefferson County / Watertown Police Department SERT Team, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Police, NYS Forest Rangers, U.S. Border Patrol, and the Jefferson County Office of Fire and Emergency Management.
The New York State Police would also like to thank the residents in the area for their cooperation and assistance in providing valuable information to responding law enforcement personnel.

On October 22, 2025, at approximately 3:00 p.m., State Police responded to County Route 13 in the town of Alexandria for a report of a domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, troopers learned that a male suspect, identified as Geoffrey M. Ingersoll, age 40, of La Fargeville, NY, fled the residence on foot into a nearby field while armed with a handgun.
Ingersoll is described as 5’11”, 150 pounds, wearing a tan hat, camouflage jacket, camouflage hoodie, and blue jeans.
State Police, along with assisting law enforcement agencies, are actively searching the area for Ingersoll.
The public is urged not to approach the individual and to contact 911 immediately if they see anyone matching his description or have information about his whereabouts.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
