PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – New York State Police say on Sunday they charged 54-year-old Terry VanValkenburg of West Chazy with a felony Vehicle and Traffic Law violation in connection with a hit-and-run collision.
A woman in a motorized wheelchair was struck on Ampersand Drive Friday, February 12th, at 5:42 p.m. in Plattsburgh. Police say their investigation led them to a green 2008 Jeep operated by VanValkenburg.
Police say VanValkenburg failed to see the woman traveling southbound and then struck her, but failed to stop after the collision. They say this may have led to the woman suffering more serious injury.
She is currently being treated at the UVM Medical Center hospital, listed in stable condition.
VanValkenburg was arraigned in Town of Schuyler Falls Court and sent to the Clinton County Jail. He is being held without bail.
