STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A former Staten Island school is collabing with one of New York City’s most popular cookie stores.
St. John’s University, which shuttered its Staten Island campus in 2024, has its very own Johnny Thunder-wich cookie sandwich available at Chip City locations in New York City and Long Island.
The cookie is inspired by Johnny Thunderbird, the university’s red-feathered mascot.
Chip City posted pictures of the red velvet cookies sandwiching “rich chocolatey filling” that has “game-day energy in every bite.”
“Pull up, rep the Red Storm, and grab yours before they’re gone,” Chip City’s Facebook post said.
In a twin post to Instagram, the official St. John’s Red Storm account aptly commented a red circle and a storm cloud to represent the university’s athletic teams.
St. John’s University’s men’s basketball team is sitting in second place in the Big East conference at the time of writing after beating the Providence College Friars on Valentine’s Day.
Chip City started not far from where St. John’s University is located today.
“Born in Astoria, Queens in July 2017, Chip City began as a hobby between two childhood friends as they sought to recreate the simple taste of their childhood. What began as a fun challenge to see who could create the best cookie turned into the Chip City we know and love today,” the store’s website said.
In less than a decade, Chip City grew into a beloved bakery that rotates 164 cookie flavors weekly at their 46 locations nationwide, according to their website.
