NEW YORK (PIX11) — Tuesday marks the Lunar New Year, and the place to celebrate will be in Chinatown, Manhattan. The holiday marks the year of the horse, and is widely celebrated by many within the asian community.

Kicking off the holiday in New York City is The Year of the Horse Lunar New Year Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival, which starts at 11:00 a.m. in Sara. D. Roosevelt Park.

According to tradition, firecrackers are set to scare bad spirits away.

In addition to the crackling and popping of firecrackers, there will be lots of dragon dancers and music. The event is free to attend.
