Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup will announce Tuesday he will run for state Assembly this fall.

Weatherup will formally launch his campaign in Fulton Tuesday evening for the 120th state Assembly District. The seat currently held by Will Barclay, who just stepped down as minority leader of the chamber and announced earlier this month he would not run for reelection.

Barclay represented the district for more than 20 years. It includes Oswego County and parts of northern Cayuga and Jefferson counties.

“Jim Weatherup is a fighter for Oswego County! It’s time to send Jim to Albany and continue the success he’s had in Oswego,” the Oswego County Republican Committee posted on Facebook.
