Mayor Eric Adams is endorsing Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayor’s race on Thursday, seemingly putting to bed a rivalry between the two politicians.
“The mayor will endorse former Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for mayor and intends to campaign alongside him,” Adams’ campaign spokesperson, Todd Shapiro, said in a statement.
The endorsement comes after Adams and Cuomo were spotted courtside together at Wednesday night’s New York Knicks game mere minutes after the final mayoral debate.
“Great win for the Knicks. We need to win for the city. Can’t go backwards,” Adams’ campaign account posted on X after the game. The post included a courtside photo with Cuomo.

Adams and Cuomo are expected to jointly announce the endorsement later in the day on Thursday.
The courtside alliance marks a new chapter for the relationship between the two politicians, who were seen publicly trading barbs several weeks ago as pressure mounted in the race for mayor.
Adams branded Cuomo “a snake and a liar” during a September press conference held amid reports that officials in President Donald Trump’s administration, business leaders around the city, and even the former governor’s camp, were working to convince the mayor to drop out.
The political move at a time of change for the city’s Democratic Party. The former governor, for his part, failed to grab the party’s nomination during the primary while Adams skipped the pre-cursor altogether. Both Adams and Cuomo chose to run in the general as independent candidates.
Adams ended his campaign early after sagging poll numbers failed to show his messaging connect with New York City voters.
