Good morning and happy Thursday. We have a gray day with a light wind that will keep it feeling like it’s in the mid-30s. Make the most of the dry spell, as we are due another rainy day tomorrow.

W55th St Scaffold

Catie spotted new scaffolding at 335–337 W55th Street β€” a building that’s become a neighborhood endurance test since construction began back in 2012. What really caught her eye: lilac posters taped around the site, laying out the neighbors’ running list of grievances and basically asking the question everyone on the block has asked at some point: Will this ever end?

This week’s fresh trigger was safety. A DOB complaint said inspectors observed pieces of plaster falling from underneath a fifth-floor balcony onto the street and pedestrian sidewalk, prompting a partial stop work order for exterior work. The posters (and our research) also point to the deeper backstory β€” a once–rent-stabilized SRO pair that morphed into an illegal hotel saga and then a drawn-out, never-quite-finished rebuild β€” while the building now sits on the market β€œas-is” for $14.9 million.
