Claud is the oldest restaurant in Joshua Pinsky and Chase Sinzer’s trio that includes seafood spot Penny and wine bar Stars. Here, you’ll find sophisticated cooking, worthwhile desserts, and a lengthy list of bottles, in addition to surprisingly affordable by-the-glass selections ($14). Come here for a lowkey solo dinner, an intimate date, or a wine-fueled group outing; there are roomy booths toward the center of the restaurant.
Despite being basement-level — you’ll have to step down to enter — Claud has an open, airy feel, with a large bar in the front. The room is warmly lit and spacious, and the sound level is comfortable.
Claud’s been around for a while, but reservations remain in demand, especially around peak dinner hours. If you’re going for an earlier dinner elsewhere, keep it in mind for a nightcap and a sweet treat after; slots from 9:30 p.m. onward are easy to come by.
