New York State Police arrested a man from Troy on Tuesday after he reportedly led troopers on a chase in a vehicle that was reported stolen. The original stolen vehicle complaint was made in Saranac Lake. New York State Police said a 2019 red Ford pickup truck that matched the description was seen traveling on State Route 86 just before 8 p.m. in North Elba. Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the operator, identified as Brian Genthner, kept going. Police said the chase continued for approximately two miles until Genthner lost control of the vehicle. According to police, Genthner exited the roadway, struck multiple signs, and collided with a building at the intersection of Route 86 and Wesvalley Road. He was taken into custody by members of the Lake Placid Police Department with assistance from state troopers.Genthner was transported to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for non-life-threatening injuries. While being interviewed, police said he displayed signs of impairment and refused to submit to standardized field sobriety tests.Police charged Genthner with fleeing a police officer, unauthorized use of a vehicle, reckless driving, and driving while intoxicated. He was issued tickets to appear in North Elba court and turned over to the Saranac Lake Police Department for additional pending charges.
