The New York State Police Troop L are advising the public to avoid unnecessary travel as a significant winter storm is forecasted to impact Long Island Sunday February 22, into Monday February 23.
Blizzard conditions, heavy snowfall accumulations and significant wind gusts are expected to result in hazardous road conditions including low visibility. Travel during and immediately following the storm is expected to be dangerous.  Â
Troopers will be on patrol throughout the duration of the storm however, the New York State Police strongly encourage motorists to avoid any travelling unless it is an emergency and absolutely necessary. Remaining indoors and enabling highway crews the opportunity to clear and treat roadways will allow for safer and quicker clearance of the roads.
Motorists who must travel are urged to:
Check local weather and road conditions prior to leaving.Reduce speed and increase following distance.Clear all snow and ice from their vehicle(s).Ensure their vehicle is properly fueled and equipped with emergency supplies.Allow extra time for travel.Ensure that the exhaust pipe is free from blockage.
