1. Double-digit snowfall reported in some parts of New York City as blizzard continues

A powerful winter storm is hammering New York City, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Blizzard Warning, the city’s first in eight years.

A citywide travel ban remains in effect as wind gusts top 50 mph and create whiteout conditions. Mayor Zohran Mamdani has declared a state of emergency, closing city streets, highways, bridges and tunnels to most nonessential vehicles. Officials are urging New Yorkers to stay home as sanitation crews work around the clock to clear streets.

Sixteen to 24 inches of snow has been forecast for the city, with 14 inches already reported in parts of Staten Island.
A Blizzard Warning remains in effect through Monday evening, with wind gusts up to 55 mph possible.
A citywide travel ban is in place for most nonessential vehicles to allow plows and emergency crews to operate safely.
Public schools are closed Monday for a traditional snow day, the first of the winter.
Most subway lines are running with modifications, while the Long Island Rail Road is suspended and Metro-North is operating on a weekend schedule.

2. NewYork-Presbyterian nurses approve new contract, union and hospital say

Nurses at NewYork-Presbyterian have ratified a new three-year contract, ending their 41-day strike.

The New York State Nurses Association said 93% of members approved the deal, which includes a more than 12% pay increase and additional staffing. NYSNA President Nancy Hagans called it “a win for our communities” and the labor movement, while the hospital praised nurses’ critical role on care teams.
