CURTIS Main thought for all the world he had opened his Morton goal account on Saturday – before Calum Ferrie’s wonder save denied him the chance.

Despite being second best for long spells in Glasgow, the visitors almost snuck a late leveller.

Main connected well with Zak Delaney’s low cross but his snap shot was sensationally kept out by the Spiders keeper.

The striker’s first three games since arriving on loan have yet to bring any goals, but Ian Murray has insisted they will come.

Morton missed the opportunity to close the gap on Ayr United in the final play-off spot, following their first league defeat under Murray.

“It was frustrating, I thought I’d got myself on the scoresheet and rescued a point for the team,” Main said.

“It’s a good save in the end and unfortunately there’s nobody there to tap in the rebound.

“On reflection, we probably didn’t deserve to get anything from the game. I think it’s a mentality thing, we need to be more robust and stronger.

“We’ve gone ahead in the game early doors and then conceded quite quickly.

“Although the effort was there all the way to the end, I just think we’ve switched off at crucial times which cost us.

“It can happen at any level, as soon as you start feeling good about yourself football has a great way of reminding you that unless you work hard for every single bit, you’ll get found out.”

Having arrived at Cappielow last month, Main had a fortnight without a game before making his debut in the goalless draw with Raith Rovers,

After a slow start, a run of three games in the space of a week represented a hectic introduction.

He admits it has been a test, though one that the Englishman has relished.

Heading into the business end of the season, the Ton remain very much in contention at the top end of the table, but will also have to remain cautious of ensuring they don’t find themselves caught up in the battle against the drop.

“The league is very tight, but we were short against Queen’s Park — we didn’t do enough to win the game,” Main added.

“It’ll go all the way down to the wire, we need to be ready to put in some stronger performances towards the back end of the season.

“I came in and had no game, I suppose you can look at it both ways. I’ve really enjoyed it so far, it’s been very positive up until Saturday.

“It’s been into the frying pan, three games in a week. I feel great and I’m looking forward to finishing the season really strong.

“Personally I feel that I can kick-on and really help the team, Queen’s Park was disappointing but there’s a lot more to give from the team and in that dressing room.”
