CITYWIDE — MAYOR ERIC ADAMS ENDORSED FORMER GOV. ANDREW CUOMO TO SUCCEED HIM, although he declined to answer any questions about his choice, Spectrum New NY1 and CBS News reported on Thursday, Oct. 23. Adams, who before his 2021 election as mayor was Brooklyn Borough President, abandoned his own mayoral re-election campaign last month.
Adams’ spokesperson, Todd Shapiro, confirmed that the endorsement is forthcoming and that Adams will campaign alongside Cuomo. As of press time on Thursday, the exact time and place of the endorsement had not been publicized. The expected endorsement is announced two days before the start of early voting in New York City.
Adams and Cuomo were seen together at the NY Knicks’ season opener after Wednesday night’s mayoral campaign debate. Among the candidates in a three-way race, Cuomo is running as an independent after losing the June Democratic primary to Queens Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani by a 12-point margin. Also participating in the debate was Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, known as an activist and founder of the Guardian Angels volunteer transit safety corps.
