A 10-story mixed-use project has been greenlit in the Peninsula City and will create a new community center just off the Broadway corridor.

Two Bayonne-based companies named J. Par Realty LLC & PKD LLC won approvals back in July to revamp the former Forum Fitness Club property at 21-29, 35 and 37 West 25th Street. The one-story building at the property is slated to be demolished under the plans, which were drawn up by Hoboken-based MHS Architecture.

The development, which is referred to as Pacifico in the submitted drawings, is slated to feature 182 residential units plus 216 parking spaces. The deal will create approximately 12,050 square feet of public community space on the property’s first two floors.

Over 10,000 square feet of amenities across the third and tenth floors are included in the project, as is a rooftop amenity space. 128 bicycle parking spaces are additionally featured in the design of the building, which is slated to utilize brick and metal panels on the exterior.

Getting the development approved was not without controversy. Per NJ.com, Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis vetoed a previous City Council resolution allowing the development to rise 10 stories tall, but the council later overrode the mayor’s decision.

Despite the approvals over the summer, a potential groundbreaking date for the project has not yet been announced.
