GREENPOINT — TWO OF TEXAS’ top barbeque joints are combining forces to open an outpost in Brooklyn, according to Eater.

Chuck Charnichart, owner of Barbs BQ in Lockhart, and Johnny White, owner of Goldee’s Bar-B-Q in Fort Worth, will open the new Kirbee’s in Greenpoint at 55 McGuinness Blvd. South (the former Peep’s Kitchen space), in mid-to-late summer. The venue will showcase the two pitmasters’ different BBQ approaches, Eater says. Charnichart tends toward South Texan and Mexican flavors and spices, while White’s brisket rub is made with turmeric and paprika.

White told Eater that Kirbee’s will be using a smoker oven fueled with post oak wood chips, as opposed to the more traditional but labor-intensive offset smokers frequently used in Texas —  which may raise eyebrows with purists but will offer more consistency, he said.

The location is a bit out of the way, but expect lines, Eater advises.
