TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A third loss on the season would be Manhattan’s most since 2020. But the Tribe are still taking things one week at a time.
“Control what we can control, we need to do what we can to get the victory,” Manhattan head coach Joe Schartz told 13 Sports.
Injuries have been a big story for Manhattan this season. Schartz says its something his team continues to work through.
“It’s part of the game, and when somebody goes down another guy’s gotta step up,” Schartz said. “So some young kids have stepped up and we’ve continued to progress through the season.”
Washburn Rural wants to regain it’s confidence following their 2nd loss of the season.
“There was a little frustration about last week’s game with all our guys,” Washburn Rural head coach Steve Buhler told 13 Sports. “I think they’re looking forward to the chance to prove to everyone that we’re still a good football team at 5-2. Manhattan’s a great program, so it’s a good way to come back off a loss and get focused on a good football team.”
With one week to go before the postseason, staying healthy is at the top of the priority list.
“The big thing is to play hard and get out of the game healthy, but also get out with a sense of purpose and direction for us going into the next week,” Buhler said.
Manhattan beat Washburn Rural, 56-14, in last year’s game.
