The NYPD appears to have moved out of its longtime base at 524 W42nd Street, ending a decades-long police presence in a Hell’s Kitchen building that, for decades, housed units including the Strategic Response Group and, most recently, the School Safety Division.

Readers began flagging the change to W42ST after noticing something unusual on the block: no police vehicles outside, no visible activity and a building that suddenly looked dormant after years of regular NYPD use.
