NEW YORK (WBNG) — New York State Police have shared a statement regarding alleged misconduct.
According to a statement shared on the agency’s official Facebook page, stories of misconduct, accusations of a lack of discipline and low morale among law enforcement have circulated over the past few months.
The statement, signed by superintendent Steven G. James, goes on to claim that there is a tendency for outlets to report on the “dishonorable actions of a few, while a great majority of [its] members serve with the professionalism and integrity demanded by the job.”
Acknowledging that every organization may be susceptible to lapses in judgment or conduct, the agency says it has taken action over the past 24 months to address instances of misconduct.
Actions have included demotions, terminations, and strengthened disciplinary outcomes, the agency says.
Additionally, the agency says it’s made institutional improvements to operations as well as personnel, including modernizations to safety equipment, including enhancements to body-worn cameras, in-car technology and specialized response capabilities.
