WHAT TO KNOW
Harvard track & field closed out the regular season on a historic note at the Saucony Battle for Boston.
A four-time All-American in the 800m across indoor and outdoor competition, Gorriaran set a new NCAA record in the women’s 1000m with a time of 2:37.72, unseating the previous record of 2:38.45 set by Penn State’s Hailey Kitching at the Nittany Lion Challenge earlier this season.
Gorriaran is the first student-athlete in program history to hold two separate active NCAA records, as Gorriaran helped the Crimson set a new NCAA record in the outdoor women’s distance medley relay at the 2024 Penn Relays.
For the second time this season, Gorriaran is the Ivy League’s Women’s Athlete of the Week, becoming the first Crimson this campaign to win the honor twice.
In the national leaderboards, Gorriaran ranks 10th in the 800m (2:01.30) and 21st in the mile (4:29.53). Gorriaran leads the Ivy League in both events as well.
Another Crimson enjoying a stellar indoor season, sophomore Ella Cooper is enjoying a breakout season in the sprints, as the Owings Mills, Maryland native leads the Ancient Eight in the women’s 200m with a time of 23.36. That time also ranks second all-time in conference history.
Senior Fabiola Belibi looks to defend her Ivy League championship in the women’s 60 hurdles, as the Englewood, Colorado native currently leads the conference in the event with a time of 8.29 from the Harvard Invitational.
On the men’s side, junior Tito Alofe owns the conference lead in the men’s high jump, as his mark of 2.21m (7’3″) from the Harvard Invitational is also tied for ninth nationally this year. A native of Peachtree City, Georgia, Alofe is a two-time All-American in the men’s indoor high jump.
The Crimson’s women’s team is searching for the 10th Ivy League team title in program history this weekend, as Harvard last lifted the trophy in 2023.
The men’s squad owns 13 Ivy League titles, as the Crimson is looking for its first team title in indoor competition since 1985.
Seniors Mfoniso Andrew and Jacklynn Okereke, along with junior Alice Mihas, are the team captains for the women’s team, while seniors Jonas Clarke and Daire Mahon are the men’s team captains.
Jason Saretsky, The William W. “Bill” McCurdy Director of Track and Field/Cross Country, is in his 20th season at the helm of the Crimson track & field and cross country programs.
