A Brooklyn townhouse is on the market for millions of dollars and an unexpected detail in the basement has some people claiming they’d “never” want to leave. Brooklyn is a large, popular borough of New York, and is famed for its rich culture, vibrant nightlife, entertainment options, art galleries, festivals and more.

There’s no shortage of things to do, with the famous and iconic Prospect Park and Coney Island attracting countless locals and tourists alike. The live music and theatre on offer are also quite the pull, while its vast array of restaurants ensure Brooklyn remains a haven for food lovers.

The borough’s appeal is easy to see, and a recent listing of an impressive townhouse commanded much attention after it was shared online. The so-called Pfizer Mansion, based at 280 Washington Avenue in Clinton Hill, is currently on the market for $9,375,000.

Built in 1887, it’s set on a double lot and boasts traditional, historic features that have been meticulously restored and updated to seamlessly blend in with the desires and mod-cons of contemporary living.

It was commissioned by Pfizer co-founder Charles Erhart and designed by architect Marshall J. Morrill. Before its extensive and sympathetic modern renovation, the property found use as a Brooklyn Public Library annex and Catholic girls’ school.

Now, it’s a “stunning”, multi-storey home boasting seven bedrooms and six full bathrooms, as well as several half baths, which spans around 10,000 square feet.

The Queen Anne-style home also has restored plaster moldings and stained glass throughout, which adds to its character and charm, alongside eight fireplaces and a working Otis elevator.

On the basement level, there’s an extra surprise – a sunken “speakeasy” style entertaining space, complete with a bar and grand chandelier. There’s even a temperature-controlled wine cellar.

A video tour of the property was shared on TikTok by real estate content creator Levi Pinson, who simply captioned the footage: “Brooklyn Mansion On Oversized 200’ Lot!”

The house impressed thousands of social media users – and hundreds of them were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section.

The speakeasy in particular drew much attention from viewers. One fan said: “The details alone. They way I’d NEVER leave the house.”

Another said: “That speakeasy is insane!!!!”

A third agreed: “The speakeasy makes it absolutely perfect!!”

Others were enamoured with the house as a whole. One TikTok user said: “Gosh that’s gorgeous”.

Another quipped: “I need you to slow down, I need to see every detail”.

And another fan shared: “This is absolutely stunning”.

Someone else observed: “That en-suite bathroom is unbelievable. These people have TASTE.”

While one person commented: “This is STUNNING!! My jaw just kept dropping”.

And another joked: “I’m better off being ignorant to the fact that places like this exist”.
