New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has denounced the US and Israeli strikes on Iran, calling them a dangerous escalation.

“Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel — mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war,” he said.

“Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace,” Mamdani said just days after meeting Trump.

Mamdani said city authorities are on alert. He confirmed that he has spoken with the police commissioner and emergency management officials and that the city is increasing coordination between agencies while stepping up patrols at sensitive locations “out of an abundance of caution”.

He also addressed Iranian New Yorkers directly.

“Additionally, I want to speak directly to Iranian New Yorkers: you are part of the fabric of this city — you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders. You will be safe here.”
