OCM issues precautionary recall for select cannabis products tested by Keystone Lab

ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — The New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) issued a product recall involving multiple adult-use cannabis products tested by a permitted testing laboratory, after finding that results reported by the lab were unreliable.

The recall affects multiple products tested by Keystone State Testing New York. Consumers should be advised that this recall is a precautionary measure. The Office of Cannabis Management has not received any reports of adverse effects caused by the consumption of these products.

Following inspections and a records audit of Keystone State Testing New York, between December 2025 and January 2026, the Office determined that the laboratory issued unreliable results for several adult-use cannabis products. The certificates of analysis, which provide important information to consumers on the product, its dosage, and testing results are a vital tool to keep cannabis consumers safe and informed about the products they buy.

OCM found a total of 54 product lots that had a result for Aspergillus, a disease-causing mold, reported falsely and did not meet safety and testing standards set for consumption. One additional product lot had a result for a heavy metal, Cadmium, reported incorrectly and did not meet the safety standards set for consumption. This is a violation of the Cannabis Law and related regulations. As such, some of these products are considered adulterated while testing results from other products remain in doubt; both issues pose a potential risk to consumer health and safety.

“This recall was issued after identifying problems with laboratory testing and reporting from a specific laboratory,” said Stephen Geskey, Executive Deputy Director of Licensing, Compliance and Laboratories for OCM. “When test results are inaccurate or unclear, product safety and in turn, the safety of New York State consumers cannot be guaranteed. It is not a risk OCM is willing to take.”

Importantly, there have been no reported adverse health events associated with these products, and this recall reflects our proactive approach to consumer safety.”

If you are a consumer who purchased any of the affected product lots tested by Keystone State Testing New York, you may return any unused recalled product(s) to the retail dispensary of purchase.
