SNEAK PEEK
With Love, Valentina has soft opened inside The Sky Club at 700 1st Street, located at the corner of 1st and Marshall Streets in Hoboken. The new wine and tapas lounge has taken over the former Northern Soul space, marking a new chapter for the ground-level commercial storefront in the 4th Ward.
What’s Happening at the Former Northern Soul Space?
The Hoboken Girl first reported in summer 2025 that the former Northern Soul space would become With Love, Valentina, more than a year after Northern Soul announced its closure. At the time, few details were available beyond the name and ownership. Signage later appeared on the door in late 2025, confirming the concept and signaling progress toward an opening. The sign also shared the business’s Instagram account, which offered few clues about an opening date.
For many years, Northern Soul was seen as a staple of the Mile Square. It first entered Hoboken’s bar scene in 2008, with the opening of its storefront at 557 1st Street. In 2016, the restaurant relocated to The Sky Club, where it occupied the commercial space until its closure in May 2024. The business announced it would be forced to close due to emergency construction repairs at The Sky Club involving the driveway, façade, and footpaths. The restaurant cited lack of proper egress during construction and financial strain following a denied business interruption insurance claim.
“We honestly do not know what’s going to happen,” the restaurant previously shared with HG, shortly after announcing its imminent closure. “We may end up selling it or moving to a different location. Hopefully we can find a way to reopen at The Sky Club, but it’s not looking great…”

Now, the space has been reimagined as With Love, Valentina, a neighborhood wine and tapas lounge from the husband-and-wife team behind Wise Vision, the optometry office at 327 Washington Street. The concept is named after the owners’ daughter, Valentina, who they previously told The Hoboken Girl has inspired them to “dream bigger.”
The spot will serve as a place “where [locals] can grab a glass or bottle of wine, have some great cocktails and small plates in an atmosphere that is approachable yet aesthetically pleasing,” Eddie and Vanessa said previously. “Think comfy seats/sofas and a place where everyone knows your name.”

The interior features a softly lit bar with teal velvet stools, marble accents, warm pendant lighting, and hanging greenery, creating an intimate, lounge-style setting. Early visitors have described the atmosphere as feminine, playful, and design-forward.
The opening menu leans into that aesthetic. A featured “Cocktails & Caviar Bumps” menu includes caviar service alongside specialty drinks such as “The Pink Panther” made with vodka and pink peppercorn, and “Mouthy Mom’s Spicy Margarita” with pineapple and spice. The curated cocktail list complements a wine-forward program and small plates, positioning the space as a spot for celebratory nights out, girls’ gatherings, or date nights in the neighborhood. Cocktails run around $16.
According to the owners, the goal is to create an approachable yet elevated environment where locals can enjoy wine by the glass or bottle, craft cocktails, and shareable bites in a comfortable setting.

It is not yet known whether Northern Soul plans to reopen elsewhere in Hoboken. The Hoboken Girl will continue to share updates as more details become available, including grand opening plans and expanded menu offerings.
