FORT DRUM, N.Y. (Feb. 27, 2026) — Fort Drum is set to modernize the way Soldiers dine with the launch of a new, campus-style dining venue (CSDV) this summer.

Following today’s dinner service, the 1st Mobile Brigade Combat Team’s Warrior Inn Restaurant will close its doors for extensive remodeling.

This initiative is part of a larger Army effort to provide more convenient, healthier, and flexible food options for service members. The new facility will be operated by the Compass Group USA, Inc., which was awarded a contract last year to establish a CSDV at four other Army installations, including Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Carson, Colorado.

Sgt. Maj. Brian Monbeck, 10th Mountain Division (LI) Food Service sergeant major, said the CSDV will transform the traditional dining facility into a modern food court, akin to a university campus. It will have extended hours to accommodate Soldiers’ work schedules and feature multiple food stations that will offer a wide array of culinary choices.

“With the Campus Style Dining Venue, the Army is making a direct investment in our most valuable asset – our people,” Monbeck said. “They are creating a modern dining experience that will provide healthy and exciting food options for our Soldiers, their families and the entire Fort Drum community.”

While the exact menus and food stations have yet to be revealed, it is expected to include a variety of options such as grilled items, made-to-order sandwiches, salad bar, and globally inspired dishes.

A key focus will be on providing nutritious meals that fit the Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) standards, with an executive chef and registered dietitian on staff. To that end, each CSDV is contractually mandated to have an executive chef on staff and a registered dietitian that can edit recipes based on locally sourced ingredients.

“It’s about making the healthy choice the easy choice by offering a wide variety of fresh, nutritious and appealing meals,” Monbeck said. “Proper nutrition is essential for building readiness.”

Soldiers on meal cards will be able to use their entitlements as “Freedom Dollars” to choose how they spend their allotted daily amount throughout the day. Everyone else can pay with cash, credit or debit card, or a tap-to-pay smart phone app.

“If you have access to Fort Drum, you will be able to eat here,” Monbeck said. “The goal is to provide a 21st-century dining experience that is not only convenient and enjoyable but also contributes to overall health and readiness.”

During the renovation period, Soldiers can choose from other meal options on post, such as the 2nd Brigade Combat Team’s Commando Café or the Culinary Outpost Kiosk.
