MANHATTAN (KSNT) – New affordable housing for seniors is on the way for the Little Apple community.
Construction is officially underway on Sunset Flats, a 62-unit affordable senior housing development in downtown Manhattan. The groundbreaking took place on March 2, marking a major step forward in providing local seniors with accessible, community-focused housing.
Designed to help residents age in place, Sunset Flats offers a mix of amenities aimed at convenience and independence.
“It’s designed for people to age in place, so people who will be living here can make this their final home, and they can live here throughout their senior years,” said Aaron Estabrook, Executive Director for the Manhattan Housing Authority. “It’ll be accessible, they can be downtown, they can walk to restaurants and get their groceries, so it’s gonna bring a little bit of life downtown.”

The development includes private balconies, covered parking, on-site laundry and a bus stop right outside, helping residents stay connected to the heart of Manhattan. Construction is now underway, with completion expected in the coming year.
