Officials say $2 million in federal funding is set to go toward site development at the former St. Luke’s Hospital campus in Utica.

The money will also be used to help demolish buildings on the 50-plus acre site.

The future of the Oneida County campus is still uncertain, but County Executive Anthony Picente said the public will be able to voice their opinions before any decisions are made.

“So it could have some health care associated with it,” he said. “It could have other service available because it is a big parcel, and when you look at it from the street, you see St. Luke’s, you see this hospital, but when you go through this entire campus, it is very large and the potential is immense.”

St. Luke’s closed when the Wynn Hospital opened in Utica.
