OKLAHOMA CITY (KSWO) – The alleged leader of a large-scale criminal organization was moved from New York City to Oklahoma.
Hao Chen faces 18 charges, all connected to what investigators say was his part in a major marijuana operation.
Chen is accused of running a scheme to fraudulently get Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority licenses and OBN registrations for grow facilities across the state.
Oklahomans were reportedly brought in as “straw owners” to apply for the fake applications, then illegally manufactured marijuana and got the drug to the black market.
In total, authorities say Chen’s organization is responsible for around 1 million pounds of marijuana with a more than $1 billion street value.
