With warmer weather on the way, some local municipalities are lifting their overnight bans early

CITY OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Things are starting to warm up in Western New York, and some municipalities in the region have lifted their overnight parking bans early.

Cheektowaga, North Tonawanda, and the City of Tonawanda all announced that they will be lifting their overnight parking bans, effective Tuesday, March 3.

These three now join the Town of Tonawanda and the Village of Kenmore, who both lifted their bans this past weekend.

“Residents are permitted to park on city streets overnight, including during the hours of 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. No overnight parking tickets will be issued at this time” a spokesperson for the City of Tonawanda said in a post on social media.

North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec said in a statement, “As we look forward to spring, I’m happy to announce that the citywide parking ban will be lifted early, effective 12:01 AM on March 3rd, 2026. After speaking with our DPW Superintendent, we believe conditions are suitable to make this change.”

“However, if we experience significant snowfall, I ask that residents please move their vehicles off the street to allow our plows to safely clear the roads,” Tylec added.

Cheektowaga Brian Nowak echoed Tylec’s stipulation, saying that while the town’s ban will be tentatively lifted, it will be put back in place in the case of another “significant snow event.”
