UPDATE March 2, 2026
The operator of the motorcycle fatally struck has been identified as Robert J. Koenig, 45, of Johnsonville, NY.
The ongoing investigation determined that a Subaru Impreza, driven by Salman Rahmat, 34, of Cohoes, was attempting to make a left turn to travel southbound onto State Route 40 when Koenig, traveling northbound, struck the driver’s side of his vehicle.
Koenig was ejected from the motorcycle, and he and Rahmat came to a rest in the southbound lane.Â
Koenig died at the scene.
Rahmat was issued standardized field sobriety tests, and no signs of impairment were observed.
No charges have been filed at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.

On February 28, 2026, State Police responded to a fatal motorcycle crash on State Route 40.
On February 28, 2026, at about 7:40 p.m., troopers responded to the report of a collision between a car and a motorcycle on State Route 40 in Schaghticoke. The operator of the motorcycle was declared deceased at the scene. No other injuries were reported. State Route 40 was closed until approximately 11:30 p.m. due to the investigation.
The cause of the crash is pending further investigation, and the name will not be released at this time.
