Thick black smoke has been spotted rising from the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.
Images and video circulating on social media show a mysterious fire – possible coming from a vehicle – burning on the bridge.
The FDNY confirmed that a call was received around 2:06 p.m. about a reported car fire. One engine and one ladder compaany responded. There are no reported injuries.
It was first seen around 2:30 pm ET. The busy landmark in the Big Apple is used on a daily basis by thousands of commuters. Eyewitnesses have reported that the road is closed in both directions.
Footage posted on X shows smoke and sirens heading one way on the bridge, and alleges that a car may have caught fire.
The bridge carries on average about 103,051 vehicles per day, according to 2024 data from the New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT).
The evening rush hour usually begins around 4pm and lasts until 7pm.
