1. Voters respond to Hochul-Blakeman, Mamdani and Trump in latest Siena poll

A new Siena College Research Institute poll shows Gov. Kathy Hochul leading Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman by a 20-point margin in the 2026 governor’s race. Meanwhile, her approval rating stands at 53-41%.

The survey also found New Yorkers back Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s proposal to raise taxes on millionaires 54-29%, while President Donald Trump remains underwater with a 36-61% job approval rating statewide.

2. City Council moves to discipline Queens Republican over Islamophobic posts

The City Council has launched disciplinary proceedings against Queens Republican Vickie Paladino over social media posts that included calls for the “expulsion of Muslims from western nations,” NY1 has learned.

The Council’s ethics committee voted to charge her with disorderly conduct and violating anti-harassment policies. Paladino denies any threats of violence and argues the action violates her First Amendment rights.

3. Mamdani seeks to succeed where others stalled in Sunnyside

Mayor Zohran Mamdani traveled to the White House to pitch President Donald Trump on building 12,000 affordable housing units over Sunnyside Yard in Queens — a long-discussed site eyed for development.

Former Mayor Bill de Blasio advanced a master plan in 2020 that later stalled amid political opposition and gentrification concerns. Mamdani is seeking $21 billion in federal funding, calling the proposal the start of a “long-standing commitment” to address housing affordability.
