THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) — Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson announced the pause on Bronx Week 2026, the borough’s signature month-long festival of parades, music, tours, cultural events, and Bronx Walk of Fame inductions held each May.

“After careful consideration, the difficult decision has been made to place this year’s Bronx Week on pause,” said Gibson.

Gibson cited the city’s serious economic crisis, stressing leaders must prioritize essential services for families and small businesses over events.

“This decision was not an easy one, but it is with the understanding that we are in a fiscal crisis and economic uncertainty,” said Gibson.

She called it a temporary pause for reimagining a stronger future version, with her office still hosting cultural events and partnering to boost tourism and local vendors who thrive on sponsorships, crowds, and booths.

“We will return and celebrate, once again,” said Gibson.

City Councilman Justin Sanchez called it “tremendously sad” for families and businesses that connect through the event.

Sanchez pledged collaboration, ready to push for something this year.

“I have expressed, and I know many of my colleagues have. We stand ready, willing, and able to make sure that we’re doing everything possible to get something on the books this year for Bronx Week,” said Sanchez.

Trey Jenkins, Executive Director of the 161st Street Business Improvement District, views it as an opportunity for BIDs to fill the gap with spring-summer programming such as movie nights, concerts, the May 9th Bronx Night Market, and World Cup events, especially near Yankee Stadium.

“It’s a perfect opportunity for bids like ourself to step up and bring everybody together and showcase our business corridors.”
