The quake was recorded 0.0 kilometers from Sleepy Hollow, in Westchester County, about 21 minutes before the report was issued.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
A magnitude 2.3 earthquake is considered minor and is often not felt by most people, though it can sometimes be detected by seismographs.
Local officials did not immediately comment on the tremor.
