State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision in the town of Mamakating

On March 9, 2026, at approximately 6:57 p.m., New York State Troopers from State Police Wurtsboro responded to a single-vehicle collision on Winterton Road near 482 Winterton Road in the Town of Mamakating.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2022 Nissan was traveling northbound on Winterton Road when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle crossed into the southbound lane, exited the roadway on the western shoulder, and struck a utility pole.

Both occupants were extricated from the vehicle. The operator, identified as Gary A. Burlew, age 66, and the passenger, Jeffrey Burlew, age 38, both of Bloomingburg, NY, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The New York State Police were assisted at the scene by the Bloomingburg Fire Department and the Mamakating First Aid Squad.
