NEW YORK (PIX11) — New York City is celebrating its independent film community with the launch of Art House Cinema Week, running March 20 to 26 at nearly 30 theaters across the city.

The initiative, supported by the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME), includes special programming and 5,000 free tickets to help more New Yorkers experience local cinemas.

Commissioner Rafael Espinal says the effort reflects a broader mission—supporting the city’s entire creative economy, from film and television to theater, music, and digital games.

With a renewed focus on workforce development under Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice Julie Su, MOME is also promoting “Made in NY” training programs that help New Yorkers break into the industry, including production assistant training for film and TV sets and a stagecraft bootcamp for theater jobs.
