The Northern Adirondack Central boys basketball team will compete for a class C regional championship on Saturday, March 14. The Bobcats defeated Lisbon Central on Wednesday night, 64-42. In the second quarter, Lisbon was down by six, and Garrett Flack would get the reverse layup to go as that brought the Golden Knights within four, 17-13. Both teams would trade buckets before NAC’s Luke Moore stepped back and fired a three-pointer from the top of the key to give the Bobcats a nine-point lead. With just seconds left in the first half, NAC’s Shane Gilmore heaved up a deep three from the logo and buried it as the buzzer went off. The Bobcats would enter halftime up, 30-18. In the third quarter, NAC’s Brayden Bushey would get a three-pointer of his own to fall to give the Bobcats a 25-point lead. NAC wouldn’t look in the mirror from there as they defeated the Golden Knights by 22 points. “It feels great. We’ve worked really hard this season. I think it’s the first time Coach Bilow’s ever made it to regional finals, so it’s really something special,” Gilmore said after the win. “He’s been coaching us since day one. Since fourth grade. He’s been with us through the whole ride. We’ve always wanted to do it for us, but we want to do it for him too, so it really means a lot.” The Bobcats will now face the defending state champion, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, in the class C regional final. In the fourth quarter, as the Vikings trailed by four, Lexi Macarenas drilled a three-pointer to bring Moriah within one, 26-25. The Golden Knights would bring its lead back to two before Moriah’s Emma Harrington spun on a defender and laid the ball in to tie things up at 28 all. The Golden Knights would then make a run as Sophia Walker would get by the defender and put the ball through the basket for two. Lisbon’s Allison Bell found herself in transition and weaved her way around Vikings’ defenders to get a layup to go as the Golden Knights would go up by four, 30-28. Moriah would get another bucket to cut the deficit within two. They then had a chance to tie things up at 34, but turned the ball over with just five seconds left on the clock. The Lisbon Central girls’ squad would hold on and win it, 32-30, as they advance.
