MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — There were 1,011 calls for police service in the city during the week of March 5-11, and 13 arrests were made during that time, according to newly released MBPD data.
The cases include the breaking and entering of a Barnes and Noble bookstore, resulting in the theft of hundreds of dollars’ worth of Lego toys, police say.
In all, five burglaries were reported: two each of residences and vehicles, and one of a business. In addition, three auto thefts and four property thefts were reported.
The business burglary reportedly happened March 7 at the Barnes and Noble bookstore at 1800 Rosecrans Avenue.
“Security footage showed an unknown suspect shattering the front door window earlier that morning, entering the store, selecting boxes of Legos, then carrying them away, out of view of the cameras. The suspect entered a vehicle and drove away with the loss of approximately $400 in Legos,” an incident report states.
The following day, a residential burglary was reported at the 1400 block of 19th Street.
“The homeowner was out of town when an unknown suspect shattered their back door window and ransacked their house, specifically the main bedroom, spare bedroom, and living room.”
Of the 1,000-plus service calls, just 287 were dispatched calls, while the other 724 were officer-initiated contacts, according to the Police Department’s latest weekly statistics.
Thirteen arrests were made during the seven-day period, 52 reports were taken, and 15 traffic collisions were reported.
The full report, which does not include sensitive calls for service such as sexual assaults, domestic violence, and crimes against children, is available on the Manhattan Beach website.
